Abstract:
The article presents a psychological analysis of the human-pet bonds. Specificity of these interactions is given by animals’ special characteristics that constitute an important potential in creating positive bonds between animals and people. Described was the specific, non-verbal way of communication between animals and their owners (among others the meaning of touch and of common rituals). The relationships that cross the borders of species and are often experienced by people in a very complex and deep way have been analyzed in the light of the attachment theory. Finally, the authors present the variety of roles and functions performed by animals in family systems.
