Abstract:
The article is an introduction to a thematic issue that brings together research on the cognitive states, experienced by employees, that are significant motivators to work. We believe that the most important among these cognitive states are the fit between a person, work and organization, as well as perception of the work as value. The article presents the most significant theories and examples of research both worldwide and in Poland that concern these issues. Attention was paid also to the positive, motivating effects of the compatibility between characteristics and attitudes of a person and characteristics and demands of work environment. The text provides summary of the most recent knowledge on how subjective feelings related to the fit between the work environment and employee can affect the work motivation.
