Abstract:
Stereotyped in society as less able, minority members perform poorly while stereotype threat, reported as crucial factor, is present. Numerous researches have shown that stereotype content can be automatically activated by information even remotely connected with it. Presentation of empirically tested factors reducing stereotype threat is what the paper is aiming at. Among others, seeking similarities to more successful members of one’s group, taking advantage of one’s sense of humor in reducing stress, and changing beliefs concerning human intelligence as well as processes of individuation seem to play an important role in eliminating stereotype threat effect.
