Abstract:
The paper analyzes the relationship between the worldview orientation and the preference for a specific dating style. Drawing on Zygmunt Baumans sociological theory, three worldview orientations have been proposed: traditionalism, modernism, and postmodernism. There was found a positive relationship between acceptance of the traditional worldview and the emphasis on relationship stability, traditional gender roles, sexual control, and avoidance of public displays of affection, thus traditional worldview was associated with a conservative dating style. On the other hand, there was a negative relationship between acceptance of postmodern worldview and factors such as: relationship stability, avoidance of public displays of affection, thus postmodern worldview had been associated with recreational dating style. No relationship was found between dating style and the modernist worldview.
Keywords:worldviews, dating, gender roles, close relationships
