Abstract:
Based on aggregation of data collected from 279 individuals aged 16 to 70, describing 40 countries using a list of dispositional adjectives, it was established that the dimension of perception/differentiation of country images were identical at individual and cultural levels of Aggressiveness, Competence, and Spontaneity. The structure isolated at the cultural level explains 87% of variance of country image and 92% of variance of aggregated attitude towards the country. Country image was correlated with the available macro-psychological, macro-social, and macro-economic indices as well as with world development indices. The results of culture-level analyses reveal a relatively high validity of the perception of countries by Poles, which is confirmed by objective macro-indices.
