Abstract:
Although experimental social psychology rejects idiographism, its nomothetism rarely reminds that of natural sciences. This claim is illustrated in this paper with selected examples of social psychological theories. The theories differ from their equivalents in natural sciences because they describe instruments of human psychological functioning that are not universal, that occur with different frequency, play different functions, and sometimes even mean something different in different cultural and/or historical contexts.
Keywords: naturalism, nomothetical sciences, psychological universals, theories
