Abstract:
The study investigated the effect of job stressors on counterproductive work behaviors moderated by job control and mediated by positive and negative emotions. Participants were 503 police officers. In line with the stressors – emotions model, high job stressors (interpersonal conflicts at work, organizational constraints and quantitative workload) and high frequency of negative emotions correlated with high counterproductive work behaviors. High levels of job control and positive emotions correlated with low counterproductive work behaviors. Job control buffered the effect of two job stressors on counterproductive work behaviors. Positive and negative emotions mediated the relationship between some stressors and counterproductive work behaviors. Results partially support the notion of the stressors – emotions model and provide further insight into processes leading to counterproductive work behaviors.
