Abstract:
The study investigated consequences of using different strategies of influence (strong vs. soft) by people in authority towards their subordinates. The findings showed that strong (unilateral) strategies of inserting power led to reduction of the level of subordinates functioning: decrease in mood , lowered level of commitment, initiative taking and willingness to act on behalf of others. Among subordinates subject to soft managerial strategies no decrease in mood has been observed and there was an increase in the desire to work for the sake of their superiors and other peers. However, the level of trust among the participants did not depend on whether the persons were subject to strong or soft impact strategies.
